MICROSTARS 2011/12

MicroStars 2011/12 Series was done solely by Giochi Preziosi, as they had acquired the MicroStars brand rights after Corinthian had ceased trading, so used the name collector's were familiar with to release a brand new series. The figures were released in the Spring of 2011 and was an all Italian Serie A club kit release, a total of 13 Serie A teams were represented, with 24 figures making up the series.

The figures were the same size as their Corinthian counterparts, however they are lighter and more flimsy than Corinthian and in my personal opinion, although these figures are very good, they do fall short of the very high standard Corinthian had previously set.

This series gave the long term collector some new and relatively obscure figures to collect, such as German Denis for Atalanta and Daniele Conti for Cagliari, whilst also having the star power of names like Zanetti, Ibrahimovic, Totti, Del Piero and Pirlo .

The most fascinating thing of this series are the 2 versions of Parma's Sebastian Giovinco. In the first batch of figures Giovinco was produced with his squad number being 21, however this error was rectified in the later production run of the figures and had him with squad number 10. The number 10 version of Giovinco is extremely rare and is seldom seen for sale!

The full line up for MicroStars 2011/12 Series is:

  • Atalanta - German Denis
  • Cagliari - Daniele Conti
  • Fiorentina - Stevan Jovetic
  • Genoa - Rodrigo Palacio
  • Inter Milan - Javier Zanetti, Diego Forlan, Wesley Sneijder
  • Juventus - Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Del Piero, Mirko Vucinic
  • Lazio - Miroslav Klose, Djibril Cisse
  • AC Milan - Antonio Cassano, Alexandre Pato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic
  • Napoli - Marek Hamsik, Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi
  • Palermo - Fabrizio Miccoli
  • Roma - Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi, Paulo Osvaldo
  • Parma - Sebastian Giovinco
  • Udinese - Antonio Di Natale

All 24 figures were done on a Green base, however under the base were player stats to be used when playing the MicroStars game and there was also a 'spot' in the middle, which was either Green, Silver or Gold, with the stats ratings increasing as you moved up from Green - Silver, and then Silver - Gold.

MicroStars 2011/12 Series figures were released inside sealed blind bags, with each figure also coming with a Fanbuk which gave a profile on the player, explained the rules of the MicroStars game and also detailed the full range of figures to collect.
