McDONALD'S HAPPY MEAL
2003 saw fast food giant McDonald's team up with Corinthian to produce a set of football figures, to be given away free with their iconic Happy Meal.
The figures were part of the MicroStars range, being assigned collector codes starting with MSE (MicroStars Special Edition) and being of a similar size to the regular MicroStars, however the figures were in sliding poses and on a oval base, which was much larger than the standard MicroStars base.
As with the regular MicroStars, these were also given player ratings, located under the base, with the 5 ratings for outfield players being 'Cross, Pass, Dribble, Tackle and Shoot' while the goal keepers 2 ratings were 'Save shot to left' and 'Save shot to right' so these figures could also be used as art of the MicroStars WCL game.
The 3 countries taking part in this promotion were England, Scotland and Wales, with each country having it's own version of the promotional Happy Meal, so in England you could only get the England players, Scotland the Scotland ones and the Wales figures were only found in participating McDonald's stores in Wales, which is a major factor in why the Wales and Scotland ones are much harder to find than their England counterparts.
There were 11 England players to collect, with one being given away inside each McDonald's Happy Meal, with the figures being inside a plastic tray and placed inside a sealed White plastic bag. The Happy Meal box featured the 11 England players to collect, with a leaflet also coming issued with each Happy Meal.
The versions found in Scotland and Wales also had their very own specific Happy Meal box design, coming with their own leaflet too. As for the figures, the Scotland ones were in sealed Blue plastic bag, the Wales ones in sealed Red plastic bags.
